Walk of mind
Walk of mind pioneers shoe hybrid fabrication design concept. Using an originative shoe layering Strata Compound method that retraces the known base hierarchy of function and shape in Shoe layers. Walk of mind shoes is a compound of five STRATAS. Strata – a geological term describe the fundamental earth unit. It is used to replace the known term – layer.
The Strata Compound method bridges gaps between: Modern digital technology and old-world craftsmanship.The project combines additive manufacturing 3D printed SLS mold of natural web cracked earth patterns, together with traditional wet molding vesicle forms (bumps), while weaving together Nylon 12 polymer and vegetable – tanned leather.
Walk of mind shoe structure strength is acquired by all five Strata's Compound together creating a geometric lock enhanced by hand sewing. Walk of mind explores a new approach to shoe design accompanied with new terminology.
The shoe design process begins with Personal customization by using a digital scan of a certain foot. The design can be adjusted to any foot, depends on the scanned model. Furthermore, The design process starts with a very detailed planning at the digital stage, taking into consideration all the aspects of binding all the layers together. It requires a wide overview combined with nm detailed specification to allow a precise assembly. The shoes are very light – yet durable due to the skeleton they consist of and the leather compounding method.
Walk of mind – STRATA compound method open new horizon for endless explorations in the shoe fabrication arena as it holds within a wide range of design possibilities that combine digital planning and traditional assembly, As an artist and product designer I found it fascinating and my early exciting.
Walk of mind project started and was inspired from research on Shoes and feet at Judaism. Relaying on a spiritual yet earthly ground, my project allows me to inner examine my heritage and its values. Both clearly led to the creation of the STRATA compound method, of natural bond between old and new combining traditional simplicity with new tech sophisticated spirit. Walk of mind clearly opened my mind beyond all boundaries
Costs: Walk of mind is a limited addition production – its costs were 1500$ for each design. I’m assuming that in a regular production the costs will be 250$ for each design.
