Areti Markopoulou

Areti Markopoulou is a Greek architect, educator and urban technologist working on the intersection between architecture and digital technologies. She is the Academic Director at IAAC in Barcelona, leading programs such as the Master in Advanced Architecture, the Master in City & Technology and the Digital Matter-Intelligent Constructions [DMIC] Research Lab.  Her research and practice design explores new architectural models that incorporate the application of ICTs, Material Intelligence and Fabrication, allowing built and public space to dynamically adapt to behavioural and environmental changes over time. Areti is also a visiting professor at University of Genova, co-editor of the Urban Next, and co-founder of StudioP52, a collective arts & tech gallery. She has been developing urban projects and ICT guidelines with the City Council of Barcelona and the Municipal Institute of Information. Areti has also served as the curator of international exhibitions such as the Pavilion of Innovation (Construmat 2015), Robots On Site (In3dustry 2016), HyperCities (Shenzhen Biennale 2015) and MyVeryOwnCity (World Bank 2011). Areti serves as member of the Barcelona Advisory Board of “Leading Cities”, member of Scientific Committee of Design Modelling Symposium in Paris, and advisor of the “Committee of Urbanism and Territory” of the 22@ Network in Barcelona.
