The Madman’s Womb is a wearable device that allows both sexes to carry a child, basically allowing men to get “pregnant.”
We believe our technology will allow the burden of childbearing to be shared between partners and enable same-sex couples to forgo the need for a surrogate. As a society, we are moving away from traditional gender roles and adopting a more fluid sense of the gendered self. With women making strides in the workplace and gay marriage rights on the rise, the conventional nuclear family is no longer the norm.
Unfortunately, the human reproductive system cannot evolve at the same pace to fit the needs of the modern family. We created The Madman’s Womb to allow non-tra-ditional families autonomy in their reproduction.
The Madman’s Womb functions as an artificial womb and is designed based on those used in developmental biology laboratories.
Our product is designed to fit comfortably over the user’s shoulders, supported by two straps. The inner strap serves to brace the device and the outer strap is an artificial umbilical cord connected to the user’s stomach via a sharp component that pierces into the bloodstream and extracts nutrients. The subdivision of the protective shell allow the transformation of the womb according to the stretching of the skin, that is triggered by the baby’s growth. Our volume was determined by studying the human morphology of a growing fetus.
